Hélio Castroneves, the former Indy 500 racing champ who won the fifth season of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, is a lot of trouble today after the feds obtained an indictment against him for failing to pay millions in taxes from 1999 to 2004.
Castroneves, 33, along with his sister, Katiucia, 35, and his Ohio-based lawyer, Alan Miller, 71, face conspiracy and tax-evasion charges for hatching a tax-dodging scheme using an offshore shell corporation based in Panama to hide upwards of $5.5 million from the Internal Revenue Service.
According to the indictment, the threesome knowingly tried “to conceal and disguise the true and correct amount” of his income. In one instance Hélio claimed he only earned $200,000, despite the fact he made $2 million for work done for a Brazilian trading company.
Reps for Hélio Castroneves and his alleged partners in crime could not be reached for comment. But the trio are expected to turn themselves in to authorities and be arraigned in federal court Friday morning, according to the The Miami Herald.
Each could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted on all counts.

Heather Locklear is a gorgeous woman, but goodness gracious that is a terrible mugshot. Has there ever been a celebrity looking smokin’ while the cuffs are being put on? Poor Heather.
But fortunately for the blond-haired beauty [well most of the time she's a beaut'], she hasn’t been charged with anything just yet. So hopefully she stays in the clear for her sake.

Shia LaBeouf is one lucky SOB! According to the Associated Press, he WON’T be charged with driving under the influence during his involvement in a traffic accident that badly injured his hand. The bad news is he COULD have his license suspended because he refused to take a breathalyzer test. I guess that’s a lot nicer than being slapped with big fees and prison time, eh?
There was “insufficient evidence” to charge LaBeouf with drunken driving, Los Angeles County District Attorney spokeswoman Jane Robison said Thursday. She said prosecutors are mulling charges against two other people involved in the July collision, but could not provide further details. “Shia is most happy that he will not have to go to court,” said his attorney, Michael Norris.
Shia was arrested on July 27 after an car accident that injured his hand and sent him to a hospital for several days. Sheriff’s deputies said later that LaBeouf was not at fault in the accident, which occurred in West Hollywood.
The “Transformers” star faces a traffic hearing with the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) that could have his driver’s license suspended for up to nine months, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Whitmore said Thursday. That hearing was scheduled for Friday. But Norris said he doubts the hearing will take place then, and doesn’t think the actor will lose his license.
